Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD) referred LaLiga president Javier Tebas to the country’s sports tribunal on October 22, 2026 after he compared Real Madrid’s communication strategy to Nazi propaganda in comments made on October 16, 2026 on social media. The CSD asked the tribunal to determine whether those remarks breached rules protecting sporting dignity and decorum.

Tebas made the comments on Friday (October 16, 2026) on social media and, in response, Real released a statement asking for the 64-year-old's immediate resignation. Tebas said he was not comparing the ideology of Real or their fan base with those of the Nazi Party but merely the club's propaganda techniques. On Thursday (October 22), the CSD said it had raised the issue with the sports tribunal.

The CSD specifically asked the tribunal to assess whether Tebas' statements constituted a "potential violation of Article 76.4.b of Law 10/1990 on Sport, which classifies 'notorious and public acts that infringe upon sporting dignity or decorum' as serious infractions." The statement from the council set out the legal provision it wants examined by the tribunal.

Sanctions for breaches of that article, the CSD noted, may include warnings, fines or potential suspension. The referral asks the tribunal to consider the appropriate classification and any penalty should it find a serious infraction.

LaLiga did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The report on the referral was published on October 22, 2026 at 07:21 pm IST.

The next procedural step is for Spain's sports tribunal to review the CSD's referral and decide whether Tebas' October 16 comments amount to a breach of Article 76.4.b of Law 10/1990 on Sport and, if so, which sanction—warning, fine or suspension—should apply.
