The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) postponed all 24 first-round matches of the Copa del Rey 2026-27 that were scheduled for Wednesday after a deadly train collision in Toledo province, Spain, on Wednesday. The fixtures were moved to unspecified dates.

The crash occurred at around 8:54 am local time between Los Yebenes and Urda in the province of Toledo, Spanish media reported. Europa Press, citing Transport Ministry sources, said several carriages of a Renfe train collided with an Iryo train that had stopped on the track. Investigators are examining the cause of the collision. Rescue operations remain underway.

Reports stated the Iryo train carried 146 people and the Renfe train carried 397. At least 46 people have been reported dead and 179 injured, and the numbers are expected to climb. Exact casualty figures remain unclear while emergency services continue their response.

Among the ties called off were fixtures involving Real Betis, Celta Vigo and Valencia, among others. Top Spanish clubs including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid issued public statements expressing condolences. Those clubs published their messages on social media.

The RFEF posted "OFICIAL | Suspensión de la jornada de hoy miércoles en la Copa de SM el Reyℹ️ https://t.co/HSp94pZ9hB pic.twitter.com/PlpaaAg1Ig" regarding the suspension of Wednesday’s round.
