Spanish forward Jesus de Miguel dies aged 30 a day after collision in Tenerife-Andorra match

Jesus de Miguel, a forward for CD Tenerife, died on Tuesday, November 3 at 8 am local time, a day after suffering a collision during a second-division match with FC Andorra at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodrguez López. He was 30.
The incident occurred in the closing stages of Monday's match with the score tied 2-2, when Tenerife's de Miguel chased a long ball and FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono rushed from his penalty area to intercept it; Owono's knee struck de Miguel in the chest and left him unconscious on the pitch. Medical personnel attended immediately, administering emergency treatment for more than five minutes after de Miguel suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest; staff resuscitated him, restored his pulse and he was taken to hospital by ambulance. The match was abandoned seven minutes into stoppage time and Owono was shown a straight red card following the challenge.
Tenerife confirmed de Miguel's death in a statement on Tuesday morning and said he passed away at 8 am local time. "Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing of Jess de Miguel Alameda," the club said. "There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfeismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome."
De Miguel was admitted to the intensive care unit at the University Hospital of Nuestra Seora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz after being transported from the stadium. Tenerife initially described his condition as stable despite its severity but the club later reported a deterioration in his neurological condition before confirming his death on Tuesday morning.
De Miguel began his senior career with Leganes B in 2015 and subsequently represented eight other Spanish clubs during his career. He joined Tenerife last year and was part of the squad that returned to Spain's second division in 2026.
The 30-year-old's death prompted an outpouring of condolences from the football community, and FC Andorra issued a message expressing its support for de Miguel, his family and Tenerife following the incident.
Tenerife said de Miguel's family had thanked everyone for their messages of support and had requested privacy during their time of grief.
