Squadron 42: new gameplay trailer released, Steam wishlisting opens as Q2 2027 launch is confirmed

On October 12, 2026, Cloud Imperium Games published a new gameplay trailer for Squadron 42 and made the single-player title available to wishlist on Steam; the developer also set a planned release window of Q2 2027.
The project, which Cloud Imperium Games describes as a standalone single-player campaign set in the Star Citizen universe, follows years of development delays and what the publisher characterises as development hell. The game was originally targeted for 2026, and company founder Chris Roberts has confirmed the release has been pushed to Q2 2027.
The newly released trailer foregrounds cinematic storytelling alongside large-scale space battles and first-person sequences, presenting a mix of in-cockpit action and on-foot moments. The footage and accompanying descriptions indicate players will encounter spaceship combat, first-person shooting, platforming, exploration, puzzle-solving and interactive story sequences.
Narratively, Squadron 42 places the player in the role of a rookie pilot who joins the United Empire of Earth Navy and trains under Lt. Commander Steve Colton; the character of Colton is portrayed by Mark Hamill. The storyline shown in the trailer frames humanity as fighting a devastating war against a hostile alien force.
Cloud Imperium Games has assembled a Hollywood cast for the title, with credits on the project including Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson and Mark Hamill, among other actors. The studio’s promotional materials and the trailer emphasise the cinematic, actor-driven presentation of the single-player campaign.
The game’s Steam store page is now live for wishlisting, and the official page lists minimum PC requirements for Squadron 42. Cloud Imperium opened wishlisting ahead of the Q2 2027 launch window announced by the studio.
Cloud Imperium Games currently plans to release Squadron 42 in Q2 2027, with Steam wishlisting available now; for further updates the source suggests following Khel Now Gaming on its social channels and apps.
