Australia beat Bangladesh by an innings and 51 runs in the second Test in Mackay on 2026-08-23, wrapping up the match in under two days as Mitchell Starc finished with 10 wickets for 51 runs and the two-match series was levelled at 1-1.

Australia posted 210 in their only innings, securing a 146-run lead, while Bangladesh were dismissed for 64 and 95. The visitors became the first team to be bowled out under 100 in both innings of a Test and the match was the second-shortest Test on Australian soil.

Starc set the tone in Bangladesh's second innings, bowling Shadman Islam who edged to point and was caught by Marnus Labuschagne, then having Mominul Haque the very next delivery as a fuller ball nipped back and clipped his off stump. Tanzid Hasan followed, holing out at deep fine leg after attempting to hook Pat Cummins.

Najmul Hossain Shanto provided resistance with five boundaries and a score of 31 before he tried to force the issue after lunch and chipped Nathan Lyon to long-off. Litton Das finished the match without scoring, recording a third consecutive duck in the fixture.

Cummins claimed Mehidy Hasan Miraz when Miraz edged a wide delivery and then had Hasan Mahmud after the batter gloved a sharp bouncer towards short leg. Starc returned for a third spell to remove Taijul Islam and complete his 10-wicket match haul.

Bangladesh lasted only three balls after the tea break: Nathan Lyon had Taskin Ahmed edged to Steven Smith at first slip for what was Smith's 219th Test catch, moving him level with Joe Root for most catches by a non-wicketkeeper, and Starc took his fourth catch of the innings when Shoriful Islam skied Lyon to point. Earlier, Australia had resumed the second morning with two wickets in hand; Cameron Green and Lyon added 38 for the ninth wicket, Green reached a half-century before Shoriful Islam yorked him lbw, Lyon struck a four and a six in a 17-run over off Taskin, and Josh Hazlewood fell as the last wicket. Shoriful finished with career-best figures of 7 for 47 and Australia's 210 was the fourth-lowest total by a team to win a Test by an innings.

The result levelled the two-match series at 1-1.
