Stephanie Vaquer regains Women’s World Championship at WWE live event in Santiago

Stephanie Vaquer regained the Women’s World Championship by defeating Liv Morgan at WWE’s live event on Saturday night at Santiago’s Movistar Arena, with Becky Lynch serving as the special guest referee. The title change occurred on a live event and shocked many fans.

The victory is Vaquer’s second World title win; her first reign ended at 210 days, while Morgan’s third World title reign concluded at 147 days. Title changes at non-televised live events are uncommon, and WrestleVotes has offered an explanation for WWE’s decision to switch the belt in Chile.

WrestleVotes said the decision was driven by the opportunity to fashion a hometown moment for Vaquer and that Lynch’s involvement enabled WWE to capitalise on it rather than let the chance pass. “For Stephanie to go over where she did was simply based on location. They had the moment right there, and they didn’t want to squander that moment, so they did a good job of figuring out how to get there with Becky Lynch involved. They wanted to reward Stephanie Vaquer in her hometown. That’s the reason she is the new champion.”

The match finish saw Morgan arguing with Lynch before hitting Oblivion on Vaquer, but Lynch stopped the count after two and flipped Morgan off. Vaquer then regained control, landed the SVB and followed with the Vaquer Inferno to pin Morgan and reclaim the Women’s World Championship.

On the September 14 edition in Mexico City, Morgan, accompanied by Dominik Mysterio, confronted Vaquer, which led to a mixed tag that saw El Grande Americano team with the Women’s World Champion. The Judgment Day laid out Vaquer, Americano and Rey Mysterio during that segment, and Lynch also confronted Vaquer in a backstage exchange on the 9/14 show, saying that after everything she had done to help Vaquer in Chile she believed she deserved the first opportunity at the title once Vaquer was ready to defend it.

Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez reported that WWE recorded a mini-documentary covering Vaquer’s homecoming in Chile; the footage, including her title win, could eventually be released on the WWE Vault YouTube channel.
