Sunderland agree deal to sign Lyon winger Malick Fofana

Sunderland agreed on 1 September 2026 to sign Lyon winger Malick Fofana from Olympique Lyonnais, with the transfer reported at a minimum of €30 million; the club and player are preparing to finalise the move. The 21-year-old Belgian is due to complete a medical before signing a long-term contract.

Fofana is a 21-year-old Belgian international who operates primarily on the left wing for Lyon and has featured for Belgium’s senior team. He moved to Lyon from Gent in January 2024 in a transfer reported at between €17 million and €19.5 million, and progressed through Belgium’s youth teams from U15 to U21 before making his senior debut in late 2024.
