South African broadcaster Supersport released the full video of the sandpaper incident involving Australia and Cameron Bancroft ahead of the first Test against South Africa in Durban on October 9. "Our cameras will be sharp for this 3-match Test series," said Supersport.

The footage shows the ball-tampering episode that unfolded on the third day of the Cape Town Test as South Africa began their second innings, when Bancroft was filmed using sandpaper to alter the ball’s surface in an attempt to generate greater movement through the air. After he was seen on camera, Bancroft attempted to hide the sandpaper by tucking it into his trousers and initially claimed the object was a piece of tape. Later that day Bancroft and Australia captain Steve Smith acknowledged in a press conference that the team had tampered with the ball, though they did not reveal that sandpaper had been used; Smith said the decision had been discussed and agreed upon by the team’s "leadership group" during the lunch break. The episode led to all three men being fined and banned from playing international cricket, and Smith and Warner were removed from their leadership roles.

Supersport posted the complete clip accompanied by the caption "Our cameras will be sharp for this 3-match Test series SA v Aus | 1st Test | 9 October | 9:30 CAT #SAvAUS #SSCricket" and the social media post carried a date of October 7, 2026. The broadcaster's release comes in the build-up to the three-match Test series between Australia and the Proteas. The decision to publish the full video has drawn renewed attention to the incident ahead of the opening game.

Despite the episode occurring eight years ago, the sandpaper affair has resumed prominence in media and fans' discussions as the series approaches. Both teams have been quizzed about the incident, with Australia’s captain seeking to move past the matter. "It was a long time ago and I don’t think there is much more to add," Cummins said before the tour.

South Africa coach Shukri Conrad acknowledged the controversy while stressing his team's approach on the field and his attitude to crowd involvement. "We’re hell-bent on beating them with our skills," said Conrad. "I would like the fans to give them some stick – but respectfully so."

The first Test of the three-match series will be played in Durban on October 9.
