Sweden to host Romania at Friends Arena in UEFA Nations League opener on September 25

Sweden will host Romania at the Friends Arena on September 25 in the opening game of the UEFA Nations League 2026-27, with Graham Potter’s side taking on Gheorghe Hagi’s squad.

Sweden arrive after reaching the Round of 32 at the FIFA World Cup 2026, a campaign in which they were dominated by France, secured only one win and registered defensive problems. Playing at home provides Sweden an advantage. Romania have not been in strong form this year, having taken part in four matches with two losses, one draw and one victory, and the Tricolorii face added pressure ahead of an away fixture.

A 27-year-old forward has looked sharp in the Premier League for Liverpool this season and will be expected to contribute for Sweden in the Nations League.
