Swiatek defeats Rybakina 6-2, 6-3 to claim Toronto title on August 13, 2026

Iga Swiatek defeated Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-3 in the National Bank Open final in Toronto on Thursday, August 13, 2026, securing her first WTA Tour title of the year and the 26th of her career.

Seventh-seeded Swiatek broke Rybakina early and closed out the opening set in 29 minutes, then took a second-set break at 2-2 before finishing the match in 75 minutes. Rybakina entered the match as the tournament’s second seed; Swiatek was seeded seventh. The match scoreline and the brief set times reflected Swiatek’s control on the hard court.

Swiatek maintained a steady offensive pattern that kept Rybakina on the defensive, committing few errors and moving well across the court. "I was really in the zone" Ms. Swiatek said. "I wanted to make the match physical."

Rybakina, known for her power serving, was unable to find a consistent rhythm and struggled to match Swiatek’s range and pressure during rallies. The Kazakh player leads the tour in aces but could not convert that edge into sustained momentum. "I wasn't playing aggressive enough and wasn't playing with (enough) energy," Ms. Rybakina said. "We all know she's a fighter and she can run left and right much longer than me."

Swiatek is a six-time Grand Slam champion and reflected on a difficult season before this victory, saying, "I'm speechless a little bit because the journey has been bumpy this season," Ms. Swiatek said. "To be here and to hold the trophy and to win against the best players means a lot." The title in Toronto is listed as her 26th on the WTA Tour.

The win carries a ranking implication for Swiatek: she is projected to move up two spots to sixth in the new world ranking. Rybakina will remain No. 2.

In the doubles final, Katerina Siniakova and Shuai Zhang beat Sara Errani and Nicole Melichar-Martinez 6-3, 6-4 to lift the doubles trophy at the National Bank Open.
