Tanvi Sharma leads Indian women as Kidambi Srikanth exits at Korea Masters

Tanvi Sharma led a strong Indian showing in the women's singles while Kidambi Srikanth was knocked out in the men's draw at the Korea Masters Super 300 in Asan on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Several other Indian singles players and a couple of doubles pairs advanced, but multiple men's singles and doubles combinations were eliminated.

Newly-crowned Taipei Open champion Tanvi Sharma, the third seed, defeated China's Yuan An Qi 21-16, 21-15 to reach the second round. Former world championship silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth lost his opening match to Israel's Daniil Dubovenko 20-22, 21-14, 12-21.

In women's singles, Rakshitha Ramraj came from a game down to beat Korea's Yoo A Yeon 22-24, 21-12, 21-13, and Mansi Singh recovered from 14-21 to defeat Kim Joo Eun 21-19, 21-9. Fifth seed Isharani Baruah prevailed 21-18, 15-21, 21-7 against Korea's Lee So Yul, while eighth seed Anmol Kharb rallied from a game down to overcome Hong Kong's Lo Sin Yan Happy 16-21, 21-17, 21-12. Ashmita Chaliha beat Japan's Riko Hiramoto 22-20, 21-18 and Shriyanshi Valishetty defeated Chinese Taipei's Pai Yu Po 21-15, 21-14.

The only Indian losses in the women's singles were Tanya Hemanth, who fell 16-21, 20-22 to top seed Hina Akechi of Japan, and Aakarshi Kashyap, who lost 22-20, 21-23, 3-21 to Korea's Kim Min Ji. In the men's singles, Kiran George was beaten 15-21, 9-21 by Korea's Park Sang Yong and Mithun Manjunath went down 11-21, 9-21 to China's Zhu Xuan Chen.

Tharun Mannepalli pushed his match to three games before losing 13-21, 21-12, 19-21 to Korea's Yoo Tae Bin, and Rounak Chouhan was edged 21-23, 19-21 by fourth seed Jeon Hyeok Jin. Saneeth Dayanand was forced to retire while trailing 11-21, 4-13 against top seed and world No. 21 Yudai Okimoto of Japan.

In the doubles, the sixth-seeded mixed pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Shruti Mishra won an all-Indian opening clash against Sathwik Reddy Kanapuram and Radhika Sharma 20-22, 21-10, 21-15, and Sonali Singh and Ritika Thaker recovered from a game down to beat Korea's Bang Ji Sun and Hyun Ji Jang 13-21, 21-15, 21-12. Seventh-seeded mixed doubles pair Dhruv Rawat and Maneesha K lost 21-18, 14-21, 17-21 to Malaysia's Loo Bing Kun and Nurul Maisarah Mohamad Zamani, while men's doubles duo Bhargav Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gobburu were defeated 17-21, 15-21 by Malaysia's Aaron Chia and Aaron Tai.

Tanvi Sharma, Rakshitha Ramraj, Mansi Singh, Isharani Baruah, Anmol Kharb, Ashmita Chaliha and Shriyanshi Valishetty have all booked places in the second round, as have the mixed pair Ishaan Bhatnagar and Shruti Mishra and the women's doubles pair Sonali Singh and Ritika Thaker. The eliminated Indian players and pairs will not progress further in this Korea Masters Super 300.
