Tanzid's maiden Test ton puts Bangladesh 88 runs ahead at Marrara Oval

Tanzid Hasan Tamid scored his maiden Test century as Bangladesh reached 286 for three at tea on day two of the first Test against Australia at Marrara Oval in Darwin on August 14, 2026, giving Bangladesh an 88-run first-innings lead.

He made 101 in 197 balls before slogging spinner Nathan Lyon and being caught by Mitchell Starc running in from long-off.

Bangladesh had resumed the day on 96 for one after bowling Australia out for 198 on day one, a position set up after home captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat. This series is Bangladesh's first Test tour of Australia in 23 years. The second and final Test is scheduled in Mackay, Queensland from August 22.

Tanzid, an opener playing only his second Test, reached his hundred to become Bangladesh's first Test century-maker in Australia during the nation's third Test "Down Under." His 101 came off 197 deliveries.

At the tea interval Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain batting at number four, was unbeaten on 79 and Mushfiqur Rahim was on 26. Play unfolded on a sweltering afternoon at Marrara Oval.

Paceman Josh Hazlewood claimed the only wicket of the opening session, having Mominul Haque, the number three, caught behind for 49 and denying him a half-century.

Bangladesh hold an 88-run lead at tea and will resume with Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim at the crease; the sides reconvene for the second and final Test in Mackay on August 22.
