Teacher-turned-athlete Shilpa KS elevated to F57 shot put bronze after review

Teacher-turned-athlete Shilpa KS was awarded the F57 shot put bronze after a successful protest led to a review that changed the final standings. She recorded a personal-best mark of 7.26m and had been placed fourth when the competition initially concluded.

In the closing stages of the event, the Indian contingent lodged a protest against Nigerian competitor Eucharia Iyiazi’s effort, which had been measured at 8.19m and declared valid at the time. That decision was challenged and, upon review, officials judged the attempt to be a foul. The reversal of Iyiazi’s result moved Shilpa up into the bronze-medal position.

Shilpa’s 7.26m best came during the rounds of competition and stood as a personal record for the athlete. Prior to the review, the provisional rankings left her out of the medals despite that mark. The successful appeal altered the podium composition after the initial announcement.

The protest by the Indian team focused on the legitimacy of the 8.19m effort, and competition officials conducted the prescribed review process before reaching their determination.
