Ten teams confirmed for ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 after Afghanistan clinches place

As of 11 August 2026, ten teams have secured places in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in October and November 2027. Afghanistan became the latest team to qualify after defeating Ireland in the third ODI of their series.
The 2027 tournament will be the 14th edition of the men’s ODI World Cup and will feature 14 teams. Qualification is being determined through the ICC’s ODI qualification pathway, with hosts and the highest-ranked sides from that process receiving direct berths. The format returns to a 14-team field for the first time since the 2015 edition; the 2019 and 2023 tournaments each featured 10 teams. Namibia will host matches at a men’s ODI World Cup for the first time.
South Africa and Zimbabwe have qualified as the host nations. India, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and England secured direct qualification based on their positions in the ICC ODI qualification process. Those teams, together with Afghanistan, account for the ten confirmed entrants so far.
Afghanistan clinched their place after winning the third ODI against Ireland in that series. The victory gave them an unassailable lead in the series and confirmed their slot at the Cricket World Cup 2027. That result completed the most recent phase of direct qualifications.
West Indies failed to secure direct entry and will participate in the World Cup Qualifier to try to reach the finals. Four remaining berths will be allocated through the designated qualification routes. Because those qualification events are ongoing, the tournament’s final line-up is not yet complete.
The confirmed teams will begin preparations while the remaining contenders continue their qualification campaigns. The event is scheduled for October and November 2027 across the three host countries. Returning to a 14-team format restores the larger field used prior to the 2019 and 2023 editions.
Four places remain to be decided via the ICC’s ODI qualification pathway; once those positions are filled the full 14-team field for the Cricket World Cup 2027 will be set.
