Tennent's Soccer Sixes to return at Braehead Arena on weekend of October 3-4

All 12 Scottish Premiership clubs will enter teams in a legends version of the Tennent's Soccer Sixes at Braehead Arena on the weekend of 3 and 4 October, with the revived event to be broadcast on Premier Sports.

The Tennent's Soccer Sixes was staged annually for nine years from 1984 and regularly attracted clubs' leading players; Kelvin Hall served as the regular venue. Partick Thistle were the winners of the final tournament in 1993. A Hearts side that included numerous Scotland internationals won the title in 1990-91, while John Collins was part of the Hibs team that won in 1989-90; Collins also featured for Celtic in the 1992-93 event.

Group stages will be played on Saturday, with three regionalised groups of four teams each. The winner and runner-up from each group will advance to the knockout stage alongside the two best third-placed teams. Every match will produce a winner: if games are level after normal time a penalty shootout will decide the victor and the shootout winner will receive a bonus point. The sin bin will be in operation throughout the tournament.

The revived Sixes is being staged with the backing of the SPFL. All 12 Scottish Premiership clubs are set to take part in the legends format, although Partick Thistle — who currently play in the Scottish Championship — will not participate. SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: "The Tennent's Sixes has a special place in the hearts and minds of a generation of football fans and we are absolutely thrilled to get the band back together again with the official endorsement of the SPFL."

Archive material and reports from the original era include images such as Celtic's Joe Miller in action against Dunfermline in 1990-91, underlining the event's profile during its initial run. The organisers have emphasised that clubs historically fielded prominent players in the Sixes, citing the participation of recognised internationals in past editions.

The tournament weekend at Braehead Arena on 3 and 4 October will be shown on Premier Sports, with group-stage fixtures scheduled for Saturday and the knockout phase to follow.
