Three centurions lift West Indies to record 405 for seven against India in Guwahati

West Indies posted a record one-day international total of 405 for seven against India in their second ODI in Guwahati on Wednesday, with John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo all scoring centuries. The innings came as West Indies sought to bounce back in the three-match series, which India lead 1-0.

Invited to bat, West Indies lost Keacy Carty for nine before Campbell and Hope added 110 to establish the platform for the innings. The 405 for seven exceeded West Indies' previous ODI best of 389 against England in 2019, a total they also lost. It is only the sixth time in ODI history that a team has recorded three centurions in a single innings.

John Campbell reached 101, his second ODI hundred, before being dismissed by Gurnoor Brar in the over after reaching his century. Campbell faced 68 balls and struck nine fours and five sixes in his knock. His opening contribution set the stage for the middle-order partnerships that followed.

Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo combined for 182 for the third wicket to accelerate the scoring on a batting-friendly surface. Hope finished on 104; the wicketkeeper-batter's century was his 20th ODI hundred, moving past Brian Lara's 19 ODI centuries while Chris Gayle remains the West Indies leader with 25. Jangoo made 114, his second ODI hundred, reaching the mark off 70 balls and leaping up and punching the air in celebration.

West Indies then suffered three quick dismissals, including the loss of Hope, with Sherfane Rutherford out for a first-ball duck and Jangoo later trapped by Ravindra Jadeja. Kuldeep Yadav struck twice to reach 200 ODI wickets. Roston Chase remained unbeaten on 29 and took West Indies past the 400-mark.

India will require a record chase to overhaul the 405 for seven, a target that would need them to surpass their previous ODI best of 362 against Australia in Jaipur in 2013.
