Tiger Woods returns to Liberty National range for first time since crash

Tiger Woods was filmed hitting balls on the range at Liberty National in New Jersey, before the Nexus Cup, marking his first time on the range since a car crash six months earlier.

The 15-time major champion, Woods, 50, shared the footage on his Instagram and also ran a clinic at the venue where he replied, "I can hit pretty much anything," when asked about his game. The Nexus Cup is a charity event he is hosting to raise funds for his TGR Foundation, and Woods has not competed at a major since missing the cut at The Open in July 2024.

The appearance follows a March road accident in which Woods rolled his Land Rover in Florida and had to crawl out of the passenger door of the car; he refused a urine test at the time. Earlier this month he accepted a five-year suspension of his driving licence and a $1,000 (£742) fine as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors in Martin County, Florida, after not contesting a reckless driving charge.

After March's road accident — his second arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence — Woods said he was "stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health". That statement followed the high-profile nature of the incident and the subsequent legal resolution in Florida.

It remains unclear whether Woods is preparing for a comeback. He has not played competitively since 2024, after rupturing an Achilles tendon in March 2025 and having back surgery last October, and in 2021 he survived a serious accident which left him with extensive injuries and he played only a limited schedule since then.

Woods' recent difficulties follow earlier off-course incidents: in 2009 he struck a fire hydrant, a tree and several hedges outside his home, which preceded the end of his marriage and the loss of sponsorship deals amid accusations of extra-marital affairs. In 2017 he pleaded guilty to reckless driving and was sentenced to a year's probation after police officers found him slumped at the wheel of his car near his home.

Woods was at Liberty National ahead of the Nexus Cup, the charity event he is hosting to raise funds for his TGR Foundation.
