Times of India column says Sydney Sweeney ad distracted from gambling harms to women

A Times of India column published on 2026-09-22 said a Sydney Sweeney advertisement prompted days of internet debate over whether she had "set women back."
The column argued a more tangible gender problem was sitting behind the advert: women losing household security, relationships and, in the worst cases, physical safety because of gambling by men around them.
It said, "That is rather more tangible than an imagined slight to female athletes," and added, "We spent so much time arguing about the Trojan horse that we almost failed to notice what had been carted into our city."
