TN closer to glory despite Emanjot’s seven-for in Chennai

On Saturday, in the third day of the Rest of India u-23 v Tamil Nadu u-23 match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, left-arm spinner Emanjot Singh Chahal took seven for 102 as Tamil Nadu were dismissed for 462 in their first innings.
Tamil Nadu had earlier placed themselves "on the cusp of glory with early dominance," but the home side, which had been two down at the 400-run mark, lost their last nine wickets for 67 runs to be bowled out for 462 in 136 overs.
Rest of India u-23 reached 195 for two in 48 overs at stumps, trailing by 88, with openers Angkrish Raghuvanshi (88 batting, 159b, 7x4, 1x6) and Ayush Jethwa (58, 98b, 4x4, 3x6) combining for a 149-run stand. Raghuvanshi had been dropped on 32 when K.T.A. Madhava Prasad missed a chance at silly-point.
Tamil Nadu’s first-innings contributions included K.T.A. Madhava Prasad 174, S.R. Athish 137 and Kiran Karthikeyan 73 before the collapse brought them to 462 in 136 overs.
Emanjot Singh Chahal produced the decisive spell, operating with a stump-to-stump plan and finishing with figures of 7/102; the slow bowlers benefited from uneven bounce in the first half of the day, which aided the collapse.
The match scorecard: Rest of India u-23 179 & 195/2 in 48 overs (Angkrish Raghuvanshi 88 batting, Ayush Jethwa 58) vs. Tamil Nadu u-23 462 in 136 overs (S.R. Athish 137, K.T.A. Madhava Prasad 174, Kiran Karthikeyan 73, Emanjot Singh Chahal 7/102).
The position at stumps leaves Tamil Nadu u-23 on the cusp of victory despite Emanjot’s seven-wicket haul for Rest of India u-23.
