TNPL-10 moves to Chennai with table finely poised after 20 matches
After 20 matches, the TNPL-10 caravan moved to Chennai for the business end of the tournament on August 17, 2026, with eight sides arriving for the final two league fixtures.
The margin for error is razor-thin: only Net Run Rate separates the teams in second through fifth place, and only SKM Salem Spartans, who remain winless after five matches, have failed to get off the mark.
Chepauk Super Gillies and Vida Kovai Kings will open the Chennai phase on Tuesday, with Chepauk the best placed among sides on six points and Kovai sixth on the table despite having the highest NRR.
Vida Kovai Kings arrive in Chennai following a 116-run thumping of Trichy Grand Cholas on the final day of the Dindigul leg, a result that contributed largely to their superior NRR. “We’re not looking at other teams. We’re in a tough spot after the three losses. Our focus is to win two games and not look at the run rate. Our NRR is way better than anyone else. And anyway, we will be out of the tournament if we lose,” Shahrukh said on Monday.
Chepauk Super Gillies come into the match after consigning Madurai Panthers to the Panthers’ only loss so far in the competition. When asked if it was a disadvantage to be among the first teams to play in Chennai, Super Gillies skipper N. Jagadeesan explained: “This [the schedule] is not in our control. It is always good to play the next match as soon as possible when you have momentum with you.”
Points table (team, played, won, lost, points, NRR): Madurai Panthers 5-4-1-8(+0.290); Chepauk Super Gillies 5-3-2-6(+0.472); Idream Tiruppur Tamizhans 5-3-2-6(+0.222); Nellai Royal Kings 5-3-2-6(+0.133).
Trichy Grand Cholas 5-3-2-6(-0.304); Vida Kovai Kings 5-2-3-4(+1.247); Dindigul Dragons 5-2-3-4(+0.205); SKM Salem Spartans 5-0-5-0(-2.392).
Tuesday’s fixture is Chepauk Super Gillies vs. Vida Kovai Kings at 7.30 p.m., scheduled at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
