Madurai Panthers secured a Qualifier 1 berth in the Tamil Nadu Premier League Season 10 by beating Nellai Royal Kings by 72 runs at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on August 23, 2026, as the league phase concluded. The result also ensured iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans advanced to the next stage of the competition.

The final day of the TNPL regular season produced a tight finish in the standings: Madurai Panthers and Trichy Grand Cholas finished on 10 points each, while Vida Kovai Kings and iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans ended with eight points apiece, completing the top four. Two qualification spots remained unresolved when the last group match between Nellai Royal Kings and Madurai Panthers began at the Chidambaram ground.

Madurai posted 198 for 5 in their 20 overs, with contributions from Hari Ragavendra (35), Shoaib Mohammed Khan (65) and Atheeq Ur Rahman (50 not out), while Emmanuel Cherian returned figures of 3/40. Nellai Royal Kings, chasing 199 for a top-two finish, were dismissed for 126 in 19.1 overs; G. Ajitesh top-scored with 56.

Nellai’s chase collapsed after they were 92 for 3, falling short of the ‘‘magic’’ mark of 144 that would have guaranteed progression; the Royal Kings’ innings included bowling responses from Shoaib Mohammed Khan (2/20), Gurjapneet Singh (2/14), P. Vignesh (2/19) and G. Periyasamy (IP) (2/16).

Shoaib Mohammed Khan was named Player-of-the-Match for an all-round display, scoring 65 off 43 balls with six fours and three sixes and also taking two wickets for 20 runs. The victory lifted Madurai into the top-two slot and eliminated Nellai from title contention.

Earlier on the same day SKM Salem Spartans defeated iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans by 45 runs, posting 169 for 8 in 20 overs—Karthick Manikandan made 57—and then restricting Tiruppur to 124 for 9. Tushar Raheja scored 75 for the Tamizhans in defeat, while M. Mathivannan took 3/18 for Spartans.

Karthick Manikandan, described in the report as a young slow bowler aspiring to be an all-rounder, struck 57 off 40 balls (5x4, 2x6); Trichy’s Rahil Shah, used as the Impact Player, finished with 3/23 and M. Poiyamozhi took 2/11 as Spartans avoided a winless campaign and Vida Kovai Kings secured their place in the final four.

The knockout schedule is confirmed: Qualifier 1 will feature Madurai Panthers versus Trichy Grand Cholas at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, followed by the Eliminator between Vida Kovai Kings and iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
