Diana Shnaider defeated Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 to win the WTA Tokyo Open 2026 at the Ariake Coliseum. Italian duo Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini captured the doubles title, beating Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani 6-2, 6-2.

The tournament was marked by a spate of withdrawals at the Ariake Coliseum, with defending champion Belinda Bencic pulling out on the opening day and Iga Swiatek, Jessica Pegula, Elina Svitolina and Maja Chwalinska also listed as withdrawals. Top seed Elena Rybakina withdrew from her quarter-final with an injury, a development that cleared the way for Leylah Fernandez to advance. Fernandez defeated Kamilla Rakhimova in the semi-finals to reach her third WTA final of the year.

Shnaider navigated a testing draw en route to the title, surviving a tight quarter-final against Alexandra Eala and then overcoming teenage wild card Mia Pohankova. The Russian’s run through the week included those two challenging matches before she prevailed in the championship.

Fernandez’s route to the final included the semi-final victory over Kamilla Rakhimova, but she suffered her second straight defeat in a championship match against Shnaider. Fernandez had also lost to Elena Rybakina in straight sets in the Ningbo final a week earlier.

Prize-money payouts from the event were led by the singles champion: Diana Shnaider took home $185,500 (₹1.76 crore approx.). As the losing finalist, Leylah Fernandez earned $114,500 (₹1.09 crore). Elena Rybakina, who withdrew from her quarter-final, collected $33,475 (₹31.77 Lakh).

After a strong Asian swing, the 22-year-old finished her 2026 season on a positive note. The WTA Tokyo Open was the final WTA 500 event of the 2026 season.
