Top five WWE Money in the Bank ladder matches of all time

Khel Now published on 2026-10-10 a list of the top five WWE Money in the Bank ladder matches of all time, recounting contests staged at WrestleMania and in standalone Money in the Bank events. The piece highlights bouts ranging from the inaugural Match at WrestleMania XXI to the 2007 WrestleMania XXIII contest and an Authority-era Money in the Bank match featuring Seth Rollins.
Money in the Bank is a professional wrestling ladder match held by WWE in which multiple wrestlers climb a ladder to seize the Money in the Bank briefcase, a championship contract. The match occurs annually and was hosted at WrestleMania for the first five years until 2010; after strong reception, WWE created a separate Premium Live Event for the contest. Over the years WWE has witnessed some of the iconic MITB matches, and Khel Now selected five that it regards as most memorable.
One of the highlighted matches came during the period when the Authority was in control of WWE and Seth Rollins had turned on The Shield. That match featured Seth Rollins, RVD, Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston and Dean Ambrose, with the main feud centered on Ambrose and Rollins. Ambrose entered as the babyface and fans' favorite to win the contract, and he and Rollins engaged in sustained brawling during the bout. Ambrose appeared to take control by striking Rollins with a chair, but Kane interfered, chokeslammed Ambrose and, with the help of the Authority, enabled Rollins to win the Money in the Bank briefcase.
The 2007 Money in the Bank Ladder Match was held at WrestleMania XXIII and involved Jeff Hardy, King Booker, Finlay, CM Punk, Mr. Kennedy, Randy Orton and Edge. Key moments included Matt Hardy teasing Booker-T by grabbing Sharmell to hit her with a twist of fate, Hardy delivering a leg drop from a ladder onto Edge, and Hornswoggle attempting to steal the contract. Mr. Kennedy won the match after nailing Hornswoggle with a Green Bay Plunge from a ladder and then climbing to retrieve the briefcase. The article notes Kennedy was poised for a push toward the top card but that WWE abandoned those plans as multiple injuries intervened.
The first-ever Money in the Bank ladder match took place at WrestleMania XXI and featured Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Christian, Kane, Edge and Shelton Benjamin. Chris Jericho, described in the piece as the founder of the match, was among the pre-match favorites, and the contest delivered several violent moments: Jericho dropped a ladder on Edge’s Chest, Benjamin executed high-flying ladder attacks, Kane attempted to break Benoit’s arm and Christian crashed into the ropes. Benoit looked set to claim the briefcase until Edge sneaked into the ring, struck Benoit on the injured arm, Benoit rolled out in pain and Edge climbed the ladder to unhook the briefcase and become the first MITB winner.
