Nigel Mansell clinched the 1992 World Championship at the Hungarian Grand Prix with five races remaining, Max Verstappen sealed his 2023 title at the Qatar Grand Prix after the Sprint race, and Sebastian Vettel wrapped up his second championship in 2011 with four races to spare.

Winning a Formula 1 World Championship is a rare career peak and, while many drivers chase it over several seasons, a handful have secured the title with multiple rounds left. The list of drivers who clinched championships with the most races remaining includes names tied across different years: Michael Schumacher (2001 and 2004) and Max Verstappen (2022) are cited among those who closed out titles early.

Sebastian Vettel took his first World Championship in 2010 with Red Bull Racing and followed up in 2011 by clinching his second title with four races remaining. His 2010 victory also made him the youngest World Drivers’ Champion at the age of 23 years and 134 days, according to the cited figures.

Nigel Mansell secured his maiden World Championship in 1992 with five races still to run while driving for Williams. He won nine of the first 11 Grands Prix that season, sealed the title at the Hungarian Grand Prix and became the then-first British champion since James Hunt in 1976.

Max Verstappen extended the momentum from 2022 into 2023 with Red Bull’s RB19 and claimed his third consecutive World Championship in 2023 with five races remaining. Over the 2023 season he won 19 of the 22 Grands Prix and officially sealed the title at the Qatar Grand Prix after finishing second in the Sprint race, clinching the championship before the Grand Prix itself.

Michael Schumacher is recorded as having clinched the title in 2001 and 2004 with four races remaining and as the only driver to have secured five consecutive World Championships between 2000 and 2004. The article also states that Schumacher holds the record for clinching the championship with six races remaining in the 2002 season.
