Torreense v Sunderland: Europa League preview — Estádio Dr. Magalhaes Pessoa, Oct 15

Sport Clube União Torreense will host Sunderland AFC at the Estádio Dr. Magalhaes Pessoa on October 15 in their second league phase match of the UEFA Europa League 2026-27. Torreense opened the competition with a 2-1 win over Lillestrøm while Sunderland beat AZ Alkmaar 1-0 in their opening game.

Torreense, a Liga Portugal 2 side managed by Luís Tralhão, began their European campaign with victory and will seek to build on that result at home. Sunderland arrive having struggled in their last three Premier League matches, a run the club will be eager to arrest before this away Europa League fixture under Régis Le Bris. The home team will attempt to control proceedings from the start, according to the preview notes.

Midfield will be an area to watch: Alejandro Alfaro, the 24-year-old, is expected to operate in a defensive midfield role, tasked with breaking up opposition play. Enzo Le Fée, the 26-year-old, converted the match-winning penalty against AZ Alkmaar and is singled out as a midfield figure capable of contributing goals for Sunderland.

Availability is clear for Torreense with all players fit apart from Nuha Jatta, who is suspended. Sunderland will be without Brian Brobbey, Thomas Meunier, Daniel Ballard, Romaine Mundle and Habib Diarra due to injury.

Projected lineups provided in the preview read as follows: Ramos (GK); Bruno, Diadie, Volnei, Vazquez; Idrissi, Alfaro; Pozo, Marques, Jean; Abubakari. Roefs (GK); Hume, Mukiele, Danso, Reinildo; Xhaka, Sadiki; Fofana, Le Fee, Angulo; Isidor. Despite Torreense hosting the match, the preview assessment favours Sunderland, stating the Black Cats are likely to secure three points on the road.

The fixture is scheduled for October 15 at the Estádio Dr. Magalhaes Pessoa and will be broadcast live in India on Sony Sports Network and SonyLIV.
