Tottenham in talks to sign Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk on season-long loan

Tottenham are in talks to sign Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk on a season-long loan, the discussions reported on 31 August 2026. The move follows the resolution of Mudryk's recent doping case with the Football Association.

Mudryk joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for an initial 70m euros (£61m). He retains a personal connection with Roberto de Zerbi, who managed him at Shakhtar Donetsk, and is understood to be open to a move to north London.

Chelsea have held talks with Leeds over Mudryk and have rejected at least one offer, while Tottenham entered the race late after making attempts to sign Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye and Liverpool attacker Cody Gakpo. Spurs have also expressed interest in Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo and are now regarded as favourites to sign the Ukraine international.

Mudryk was provisionally suspended after returning an "adverse finding" for the banned substance meldonium in an out-of-competition test on international duty with Ukraine in October 2024. The FA initially imposed the maximum four-year ban, which Mudryk appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

The FA said anti-doping disciplinary proceedings had been resolved and that Mudryk accepted breaking anti-doping rules, also agreeing to a suspension equal to the time already served; he became free to return to competition "with immediate effect" on 31 July. Mudryk has not played a competitive match since November 2024.

Mudryk has said he "never knowingly or intentionally" had taken a banned substance and described himself as "grateful" to be able to return to playing after "the most difficult period" of his career. The proposed deal with Tottenham is being discussed as a season-long loan.
