Transfers to watch before the summer window shuts

Julian Alvarez, Enzo Fernandez, Cody Gakpo and several other high-profile players remain linked with moves as Premier League clubs scramble to complete deals before the summer transfer window closes at 23:00 BST on Tuesday.

The window has been open since 15 June and BBC Sport reporters have identified a number of late, high-profile targets. Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is reported to want to leave Atletico, who have refused to sell him to Barcelona but are prepared to do a deal with Arsenal and are seeking a fee of 150m euros (£128m). Alvarez has missed multiple training sessions and did not travel to face Sevilla, and Diego Simeone said he will "do everything" he can to make Alvarez feel important when he returns to training.

Enzo Fernandez did not feature in Sunday's Premier League win over Brighton and has been linked with a move to Manchester City as Pepited interest follows Maresca, who worked with the Argentina midfielder at Chelsea. Any move for Fernandez would likely be a club-record fee, surpassing the £116m paid for Elliot Anderson earlier this summer. If Fernandez departs, Lamine Camara — who has already made 49 appearances for Senegal — could be targeted from Monaco as a replacement, while Chelsea continue to press forward with what would be their 13th incoming deal amid exits exceeding 30 players and a potential breach of the £300m player-sales mark they set last season; Mykhailo Mudryk is seeking a loan and futures for Pedro Neto and Tosin Adarabioyo remain unclear, with Dario Essugo, Deivid Washington and Shim Mheuka also linked with exits.

Manchester City have opened talks with Liverpool over Cody Gakpo and the Netherlands international is said to be open to a move, but Liverpool would only sanction a sale if they can recruit another attacker in addition to Bradley Barcola. Tottenham are also interested, while City are reported to be prepared to offer around £85m and are indicated by sources to be Gakpo's preferred destination. With Gakpo's future uncertain, Liverpool have turned their attention to Crystal Palace's Ismaila Sarr after two bids for Yankuba Minteh were rejected by Brighton; Brighton want more than the £60m Liverpool offered, Sarr has scored 23 goals in 81 appearances for Senegal, and Palace rebuffed an initial Liverpool enquiry last week.

Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign Iliman Ndiaye from Everton, with Richarlison set to move to Everton in the opposite direction; clubs have largely agreed terms between them but it is unclear whether Ndiaye will complete the switch, and Manchester City have also expressed interest. Ndiaye, 26, has rejected multiple contract offers and held talks with Al-Hilal earlier this summer, and Everton have agreed terms in principle to re-sign Richarlison after he told Spurs head coach Roberto de Zerbi "too many times that he wants to leave". Everton are also growing increasingly confident of completing a loan to bring Jack Grealish back from Manchester City, though the precise terms remain complicated as Grealish enters the final year of his contract at the Etihad and has prioritised a return to Everton over a reunion with Aston Villa.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo is a forward on Newcastle's shortlist and Lyon manager Matthias Jaissle, fresh from unveiling Nico Gonzalez, said he would continue to push for further deals; Newcastle's interest in the 21-year-old from Lille stems from his creativity and positional versatility. Lille manager Davide Ancelotti left Fernandez-Pardo out of the weekend squad against Paris St-Germain and has excluded him from training until the window shuts, a development that could facilitate negotiations.

Manchester United's deadline day activity is expected to centre around Joshua Zirkzee and smaller moves unless there is a very late, and unexpected, development around Marcus Rashford.
