Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost their women's doubles semifinal to China's Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning at the BWF World Championships on August 22, 2026, and settled for a bronze medal.

The unseeded Indian pair had reached the semifinals after a quarterfinal victory over China's Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian, a result that guaranteed India at least one podium finish and provided the nation's first medal of the tournament. With Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty eliminated in the men's doubles quarterfinals on Friday, Treesa and Gayatri were the only remaining Indian representatives. A win in the semifinal would have taken the duo into the World Championships final for the first time.

Their semifinal opponents were the top seeds Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning; the match had been scheduled on Court 1 at around 2.40 pm.

Japan's Kento Momota booked his place in the men's singles final after overcoming Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien Chen, reversing a 17-21 first-game deficit to prevail 17-21, 21-11, 21-10.

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand will leave the championships with bronze, while Kento Momota progresses to contest the BWF World Championships final.
