Trump beats Selby 5-0 in Shenzhen as Wu edges Murphy to reach semi-finals

On 2 October 2026, Judd Trump whitewashed Mark Selby 5-0 at the Shenzhen Open, progressing into the tournament semi-finals.
Wu Yize also advanced, surviving a 5-4 contest with Shaun Murphy to join the last four.
Wu Yize and Judd Trump have met six times previously with the Englishman victorious on four occasions. Trump produced five successive half-centuries against Selby and combined those breaks with measured safety play to complete the 5-0 win. Selby created openings in the first, third and fourth frames but was unable to match the world number two's cue-ball control.
World champion Wu registered two centuries in the last three frames to secure a 5-4 victory over Murphy in a repeat of this year's Crucible final, which the Chinese player also won in a deciding frame. Murphy compiled breaks of 104 and 98, but those came amid frames in which he missed straightforward pots, allowing Wu to reach the interval on level terms. The 44-year-old Englishman then moved 3-2 ahead with a break of 68.
Wu responded with runs of 94 and 121 to gain the lead. An error-strewn eighth frame saw Murphy draw level after Wu missed a crucial brown, and the 22-year-old finished the match by capitalising on a mistake in the decider with a break of 117.
World number 45 Jimmy Robertson defeated Chris Wakelin 5-3, extending his bid for a first ranking title since 2018. Yuan Sijun recovered from an early deficit to beat Michael Holt 5-2 after rattling off four frames in succession, a sequence that included two centuries.
Trump will meet Wu Yize in one semi-final, while Robertson is set to face Yuan Sijun in his next match.
