Tuchel omits Cole Palmer, names two uncapped players in England squad for November Nations League

England manager Thomas Tuchel said Cole Palmer "misses too many chances to impress" after leaving the Chelsea forward out of his squad for England's November Nations League fixtures against Croatia at Wembley on Thursday, 12 November and Spain in Madrid on Sunday, 15 November.
Palmer, 24, had dropped out of England's squad for the early autumn matches and was not selected for the November double-header; Tuchel instead included two uncapped attacking midfielders in the party. The manager named Fulham's Josh King and Borussia Dortmund's Jobe Bellingham as new call-ups as he announced the 27-player list.
Tuchel explained his selection choices by pointing to England's depth in the number 10 role, saying: "We have enough number 10s and we stick to the guys who were in the previous camp because we were happy with the two and a half weeks we had together." He added that "We have Josh King as a new player in there, but I want to see him on both wings. He is kind of an extra player and he can play all four positions."
On Palmer specifically Tuchel said: "I guess everyone is desperate to play for England and Cole is no exception. "We are speaking now about a player that is not in camp. It counts when you are in camp and I just said last time that he misses too many opportunities to impress." Jobe, 21, joins his brother Jude in the squad and the pair could be the first siblings to feature together in an England line-up since Gary and Phil Neville.
Tuchel's squad lists three goalkeepers: Jordan Pickford (Everton), Jason Steele (Brighton & Hove Albion) and James Trafford (Leeds United). Defenders selected were Trent Alexander-Arnold (Real Madrid), Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton), Marc Guéhi (Manchester City), Lewis Hall (Newcastle United), Ezri Konsa (Arsenal), Jarell Quansah (Bayer Leverkusen), Djed Spence (Inter Milan) and Ben White (Arsenal).
Midfield selections included Elliot Anderson (Manchester City), Jobe Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), James Garner (Everton), Josh King (Fulham), Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal) and Declan Rice (Arsenal). Forwards named were Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Leeds United), Eberechi Eze (Arsenal), Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest), Anthony Gordon (Barcelona), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Rio Ngumoha (Liverpool) and Morgan Rogers (Chelsea).
There were several notable absences through injury and withdrawal. Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka, 25, misses the November fixtures after sustaining a quadriceps injury against Bayern Munich last month; he was substituted early in the Champions League game and the Premier League champions believe he will be absent for six weeks. Bournemouth's Alex Scott, 23, is not selected after picking up an injury against Croatia in October; he made his England debut in the first international break of the season and was described as "the complete package" by Tuchel and is reportedly in contention to return for the Cherries against Ipswich on Sunday. Marcus Rashford and Tino Livramento, who both pulled out of the last squad prior to any matches being played, miss out with hip and knee injuries respectively, while Como's Trevoh Chalobah, Manchester City's Nico O'Reilly and Rico Lewis have also not been selected.
James Garner and Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White retain their places after being added to England's last squad prior to any fixtures being played, while Ben White and Djed Spence return for the first time since the summer. Declan Rice and Ezri Konsa, who both withdrew from the previous England party, are fit and have been selected for the November Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain.
