The UFC’s staging of the Freedom 250 card on the South Lawn of the White House in June produced losses of around $30m (roughly £22m), the company’s owners disclosed. The invitation-only event, attended by President Donald Trump and Vice-President JD Vance, marked celebrations for 250 years of American independence.

A purpose-built structure that held about 4,300 seats was erected for the card and none of those seats were made available to the public. Invitation-only tickets were reserved for political allies, financial sponsors and members of the military. Gate revenue contributes substantially to the earnings of an event and the absence of public ticket sales was a material part of the card’s financial picture.

The company estimated $60m (£44m) was spent on production and overall costs for Freedom 250, and the UFC was unable to recoup that sum via sponsorships. Parent company TKO Group Holdings reported an increase in revenue for the second quarter of 2026. Their financial results said a decrease in profit margin "was entirely due to the financial profile of the UFC Freedom 250 event. Absent Freedom 250, margins would have increased year-over-year."

Freedom 250 drew an estimated 8.2m domestic viewers and around 34m views worldwide, placing it among the most watched mixed-martial-arts events. The night’s headliner saw Justin Gaethje of the United States upset Spain’s Ilia Topuria to win the UFC lightweight title. The card was otherwise described in reports as having been marred by an Obama smear.

Ariel Emanuel, executive chair and CEO of TKO, commented on the company’s quarterly performance, saying: "Despite a challenging global environment, TKO delivered solid results in Q2, with strong momentum heading into the back half of the year." He made the remark alongside the company’s second-quarter financial disclosures.

TKO’s disclosure makes clear the Freedom 250 event was the principal reason for the quarter’s reduced profit margins, even as the group posted higher revenue for Q2 2026.
