Undercover, Fourth Wing and Spotlight turn in strong morning work at Pune
Undercover, Fourth Wing and Spotlight were prominent during morning trackwork at Pune on Monday, August 3, when the horses were exercised on the turf. Mock races run on August 2 produced winners Esteban and Zayyan on the race track sessions conducted ahead of the exercises.
At the 600m drills, Dancing Cloud (Shahrukh) clocked 41 while Saint Sizzle (Nazil) posted 39 and was described as moving freely; Go Tonto (Nazil) also recorded 39 and was slightly urged. Golden Gun (S.J. Sunil) and New Star (Peter) both returned 41 and were recorded level. These sessions formed the opening part of the morning programme at Pune.
During the 800m work, Shambala (T.S. Jodha) covered the distance in 56 with 600/42 and was noted as easy, while Thundering Grey (Avinash) did 52 with 600/39 and was pushed. Mirae (app) and Theodosius (Avinash) both registered 56 with 600/42 and were rated easy; Marcus (app0) and Sky Bound (S.J. Sunil) ran 55 with 600/41 and 600/39 respectively and were reported to move fluently or freely. Magical Moments (Avinash) returned 53, 600/40 and was urged, and Spotlight (Prasad) completed the 800m in 50 with 600/37 and was said to have moved nicely.
In 1,000m work, Undercover (C. Umesh) and Silver Strike (Merchant) were recorded as 1-3 with sectionals 800/49 and 600/38; the report notes Undercover moved well and finished six lengths ahead. Sequential (Avinash) and Son Of A Gun (app) were listed 1-8 with 800/52 and 600/39, with the former three lengths better. Bohemian Rhapsody (app) covered 600 in 43 and was described as easy, while Your Unforgettable (Zervan) did 1-6 with 800/51 and 600/39 and was reported to have moved well.
Additional 1,000m observations included Pride’s Prince (Hamir) and Ageisjustanumber (app) both returning 1-7 or 1-9 with 800/53 and 600/40 and working well or freely, and Fourth Wing (A. Gaikwad) recorded as 1-5 with 800/50 and 600/37 and noted to have moved attractively. The report also lists Allez L’ Etoile (Neeraj) under 1,200m work with figures 1-21, 1000/1-7, 800/53 and 600/40 and the comment that the horse responded well.
Gate practice on the inner sand over 1,000m featured Heaven’s Rhythm (Peter) and Horizon (S.J. Sunil) recorded 1-9 with 800/53 and 600/40, moving neck and neck freely. Market King (C.S. Jodha) and Azure (Shelar) ran 1-6 with 800/52 and 600/39 level and freely, while Kaiser (Dashrath) finished four lengths ahead of Sixty Four Squares (Pranil) in a 1-7, 800/52, 600/39 schooling. Sanctified (Vivek) and Rajasi (app) returned 1-9 with 800/53 and 600/40 level, and Taabiir (rb) finished well clear of Land Of Plenty (Ramswarup) in 1-9 with 800/54 and 600/42.
On August 2, a 1,200m mock race on the race track saw Esteban (Avinash) win from Dreams Come True (Gore), Brahmastra (J. Chinoy), Brasilier (T.S Jodha), Destroyer (D.A. Naik), Exotic Star (Mosin), American Eagle (Zeesha), Lickety Split (Nazil), Juracan (C.S. Jodha) and Star Romance (Peter) with a 600/36 split; the margins were 2, 2-3/4 and 6 and Esteban won pillar to post. The report notes Juracan was slowly off by a distance and Star Romance planted and later jumped out further behind.
A second 1,200m mock race on August 2 listed Zayyan (app), Giacomo (Mosin), Invictor (Zervan), Red Lightning (J. Chinoy), Savage Peacock (app), Dare Devil (S.J. Sunil), Azaadi (Trevor), Loyal Lover (Nazil), Field Of Gold (Shubham), Abhyankar (Peter) and Inheritance (app) 1-10 with 600/35 and margins 2-1/4, 1/2 and 2-1/4. The report states Zayyan, who was racing in fourth position till the bend, quickly took charge in the straight and won the race comfortably; Dare Devil and Abhyankar were slowly off by three lengths.
