Uruguay name 26-player squad for September-October international window; Federico Valverde called up

Uruguay coach Diego Forlán named a 26-player squad on 16 September 2026 for the September-October international window, with Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde among those selected. The call-up covers Uruguay’s forthcoming matches during the September-October FIFA international window.

Three goalkeepers were included in Forlán’s list: Santiago Mele, Cristopher Fiermarin and Thiago Cardozo. The coach’s selections also feature recognised defensive and midfield names alongside the attack options.

The defensive contingent named comprises Guillermo Varela, Nahitan Nandez, Santiago Mourino, Sebastian Caceres, Ronald Araujo, Jose Maria Gimenez, Juan Rodriguez, Mathias Olivera, Juan Manuel Sanabria and Joaquin Piquerez. The announcement noted defensive priorities, and the squad includes Ronald Araujo and Jose Maria Gimenez among the backline choices.

The midfield group on the roster consists of Rodrigo Bentancur, Facundo Bernal, Lucas Torreira, Federico Valverde, Brian Rodriguez, Rodrigo Zalazar, Facundo Pellistri, Maximiliano Araujo and Giorgian de Arrascaeta. Federico Valverde is listed among the central midfield options.

Forwards called up are Martin Satriano, Rodrigo Aguirre, Federico Vinas and Darwin Nunez. Even though the player no longer plays for Liverpool, Nunez, who is now on-loan at Al-Diriyah, has been called up.
