Urvil Patel: "I don’t have self-doubt" as he prepares for Gujarat’s Ranji Trophy duel
Urvil Patel faced throwdowns for more than 30 minutes at the Palam ground on Saturday as he prepared for Gujarat’s Ranji Trophy duel against Delhi, and said he clears his mind before taking an aggressive approach. “I look to be clear in my mindset. If I decide to attack, I show full conviction. I don’t have self-doubt,” he told the media on Saturday.
Patel wore yellow-coloured batting gloves during the net session, a reminder of his association with Chennai Super Kings since the 2025 Indian Premier League. He spoke about the confidence the CSK stint has given him, pointing to M.S. Dhoni’s presence and guidance: “After playing in the IPL, confidence is high. Just seeing Mahi bhai around gives confidence. I was fortunate to have my seat next to his in the CSK dressing room.”
The 2026 IPL offered Patel a standout moment when he reached a half-century off just 13 balls against Lucknow Super Giants, the joint-fastest in the T20 league’s history, and he also produced a 23-ball 65 in that season. Despite that rapid innings, he compiled only 129 runs in seven games this year, a return he said left him dissatisfied: “I was not satisfied with my overall performance. I reviewed how the season went and I’m working on the things that I have identified,” he admitted.
In the Ranji Trophy, Patel has maintained an attacking intent, and last week he scored a 67-ball 85 against Odisha. He practised attacking strokes during Saturday’s nets to carry that approach into the longer format.

He remains in preparation for Gujarat’s Ranji Trophy meeting with Delhi, working on the aspects of his game he identified during his review of the IPL season.
