Max Verstappen won the Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Sunday, converting pole position into his first victory at the venue. Charles Leclerc finished second and Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli took third as Verstappen extended a run that included a sprint win and his second successive race victory of the season.

Verstappen controlled much of the race, fending off an early challenge from Leclerc and managing tyre wear to remain at the front. The Dutch driver had arrived in Singapore determined to end his wait for a win at the circuit and said: "It's taken a while but I think this race was very good. We had pace when we needed to have it on the soft tyre, even though I think the medium tyre for everyone was more of a struggle," Verstappen said. "But it worked out, so of course very happy to win here... The last two races have been really positive for us and it's just great to see." Antonelli’s podium finish strengthened his position in the championship and moved him closer to a first world title.

Antonelli extended his championship lead over Mercedes team-mate George Russell to 102 points and is in a position to mathematically clinch the title at the next round in Austin. The Italian, who earned his 14th podium of the season, sounded surprised when told of that possibility: "Can I? Really?" he said. "Well, let's not worry about that. Let's try to do the best weekend as possible and finish the job."

Ferrari produced a mixed evening despite Leclerc finishing second, while Lewis Hamilton slipped from a third-place start to sixth after late tyre problems. McLaren pair Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri both passed Hamilton late in the race. George Russell, starting from the back of the grid because of engine penalties, recovered to finish ninth behind Liam Lawson and Nico Hulkenberg, with Isack Hadjar completing the top 10.

Leclerc made the quicker start and threatened to draw level with Verstappen into Turn 1, but Verstappen moved across to cover the inside line and kept the lead. The Red Bull driver built an advantage on the soft tyres as his team asked him to manage degradation, while Ferrari searched for an undercut via pit strategy. Hamilton began losing ground on the medium compound and was brought in for soft tyres before Leclerc stopped on lap 25 as Ferrari tried to ensure the Monegasque emerged ahead of his team-mate.

Hamilton voiced his frustration over team radio during that period, saying: "I need to use this speed, mate." Leclerc responded by setting the fastest lap while Verstappen remained in control; when Verstappen pitted on lap 33 his lead was sufficient for him to return to the track still in front.

A virtual safety car following Lance Stroll's retirement with clutch problems prompted a wave of pit stops, and Russell was among those disadvantaged by the timing when the virtual safety car ended sooner than expected, leaving him down in 10th. The differing strategies helped Leclerc move into second after he overtook Hamilton on lap 46, but he remained nearly 15 seconds behind Verstappen, who experienced radio communication problems for a second time during the weekend, with his race engineer resorting to coded instructions asking Verstappen to respond with a sound or remain silent when presented with strategic options.

Norris attempted a pass on Leclerc on lap 54 but Hamilton ran wide, forcing the McLaren onto the dirty side and allowing Antonelli to surge past and advance through the field. Antonelli overtook Hamilton for third, Norris later moved into fourth, and Piastri overtook Hamilton on the final lap to take fifth and drop the Ferrari driver to sixth.

Verstappen remained unchallenged through the closing stages to claim a long-awaited Singapore victory, while Antonelli's latest podium further strengthened his grip on the championship as the season moves towards its decisive rounds.
