Vincent Kompany hospitalised after collapsing during Bayern training

Vincent Kompany was taken to hospital after collapsing during a Bayern Munich training session on Friday, the club said. He felt unwell while observing the reserve-team session and was transported for medical attention.

Kompany had been nursing a virus in recent days and had been coaching his squad before he fell ill. He remained on the bench for Bayern’s 2-2 Champions League draw at home against Arsenal on Wednesday despite the viral infection. Bayern are due to travel to Freiburg on Sunday. The club reported the incident on its website.

Bayern said on their website: “Vincent Kompany required medical attention after collapsing during a training session for Bayern’s reserve team. The head coach of the professional squad had been observing the second team’s session.”

The club added: “Kompany is currently undergoing a thorough examination in the hospital and will remain under medical care. For the time being, his coaching staff will manage all training and match-related operations.”

Max Eberl, Bayern’s board member for sport, said: “Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority. At Bayern, we will do everything we can to ensure he makes a speedy recovery. Vinnie is receiving all the necessary medical care and support, and he will be given as much time as he needs. Everyone at FC Bayern wishes Vinnie a quick recovery.”

Kompany will remain under medical care while his coaching staff handle training and match duties in his absence, the club said. Bayern are scheduled to travel to Freiburg on Sunday.
