Vinicius Jr missed Real Madrid’s LaLiga match at Racing Santander’s Campos de Sport de El Sardinero on Sunday, November 1, 2026, because he is serving a suspension. It was his third consecutive absence for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid arrived in Santander on the back of a 2-1 El Clásico win over FC Barcelona in which Kylian Mbappe’s second goal in the closing minutes secured victory for Jose Mourinho’s side. Mourinho’s team have since recorded five wins across all competitions after losing the Madrid derby to Atletico Madrid before the international break, and Los Blancos had taken nine wins from their previous 10 meetings with Racing, creating expectations of another three points on Sunday.

Vinicius Jr is serving the third game of a four-game domestic ban following the red card he received against Villarreal. The suspension covers domestic competitions and is the reason he is absent from the matchday squad in Santander.

In Vinicius’s absence, Mourinho has continued to select new signing Yan Diomande in the starting lineup; Diomande has started since the Brazilian was sent off and was named in the eleven for the trip to Racing Santander. The club confirmed the selection ahead of the match.

With the Champions League offering an alternative competition this week, Vinicius is anticipated to return to the starting lineup in Athens on Wednesday. He will not appear in LaLiga again until after the next international break.

Real Madrid’s immediate next engagement is the midweek Champions League fixture in Athens on Wednesday, where Vinicius is expected to be available following the completion of his domestic suspension.
