Vinicius Junior eligible for Real Madrid against RB Leipzig despite four-match domestic ban

Vinicius Junior is eligible to play for Real Madrid against RB Leipzig at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in the UEFA Champions League on October 21, 2026. The Brazilian forward’s availability for the European fixture stands despite a suspension that applies only to domestic Spanish competitions.
Real Madrid are preparing to host RB Leipzig in their third league-phase match of the UEFA Champions League 2026-27 campaign under manager Jose Mourinho. The side arrive on a two-match winning run in the competition after victories over Inter Milan and a 4-3 win against AS Roma. In domestic action they produced a strong performance against Sevilla and earlier engineered a comeback to beat Wolves to claim three points.
Vinicius was shown a red card in Real Madrid’s LaLiga match against Villarreal. That dismissal triggered disciplinary action but does not prevent him from featuring in UEFA competitions. Khel Now reports he is therefore eligible for Real Madrid’s Champions League meeting with RB Leipzig.
The forward is, however, suspended in Spanish domestic competitions for four matches. He initially received a two-match ban for violent conduct and was handed two additional matches for an aggressive protest toward the referee. As a result of that domestic suspension, Vinicius will miss the upcoming El Clasico.
Khel Now also notes that Vinicius has not matched his own standards since the start of the 2026-27 season and might have to compete for a starting berth under Jose Mourinho. The report records that Vinicius Junior joined Real Madrid in 2018 from Brazilian club Flamengo. The Champions League fixture is scheduled for October 21, 2026 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu (12:30 AM IST on October 22 in India).
Vinicius’s availability for the Champions League match means Real Madrid can select him for the RB Leipzig game on October 21, 2026, while his four-match domestic suspension will keep him out of Spanish competition, including the forthcoming El Clasico.
