Vinícius Júnior signs six-year Real Madrid extension to 30 June 2032, ending Arsenal links

Vinícius Júnior has agreed a new six-year contract with Real Madrid that runs until 30 June 2032, the club announced on 6 August 2026. The Brazil international had entered the final 12 months of his previous deal and had been heavily linked with Arsenal during the transfer window.

Real’s decision to extend Vinícius comes after a turbulent 2025-26 season in which the club failed to win a trophy and initial uncertainty following José Mourinho’s arrival reportedly alerted the Premier League champions. Vinícius joined Real Madrid in July 2018 at the age of 18 and, according to the club, has played 375 matches, scored 128 goals and won 14 titles during his eight seasons. The honours listed by the club include two Champions Leagues, three Club World Cups, two Uefa Super Cups, three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups.

A club statement said: “Real Madrid and Vinícius Júnior have agreed on the extension of our player’s contract, which links him to the club until 30 June 2032.” The statement also added: “His contribution to all these titles has been pivotal due to his gameplay, assists, and goals.”

Vinícius marked the signing on social media, writing: “Eight years at the Bernabéu are too few … six more years, and for ever!” The 26-year-old had indicated he was open to staying during an in-house interview in which he referenced Mourinho wanting him to be “happy” and “joyful” after a difficult spell.

A shock last-16 World Cup exit in America with Brazil contributed to a frustrating 12-month period for Vinícius, the club said, but with his future resolved the forward is expected to focus on helping Real challenge for major trophies again under Mourinho.
