Virat Kohli reaches 15,000 ODI runs in Thiruvananthapuram

Virat Kohli completed 15,000 runs in One-Day International cricket on September 27, 2026 during the opening ODI between India and the West Indies at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. He became only the second batter in history after Sachin Tendulkar to reach the milestone.

Kohli has occupied the second spot on the all-time ODI run-scorers list since he went past former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara in October 2025. Sangakkara scored 14,243 runs in 50-overs cricket and remains the third highest-ever scorer.

Kohli brought up the 15,000-run mark with a pull shot for four off Alzarri Joseph towards midwicket and celebrated the landmark with his arms aloft to acknowledge the crowd. The boundary came as India were chasing a target of 296 in the match.

During the same innings Kohli completed his 80th half-century in ODIs, doing so off only 40 balls. With 54 centuries, he also holds the record for the most hundreds in the format. He scored his 50th hundred against New Zealand in the semifinal of the 2023 ODI World Cup in Mumbai.

Among other all-time figures, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting is fourth on the list with 13,704 runs in 375 ODIs. Former Sri Lanka opener Sanath Jayasuriya sits fifth with 13,430 runs in 448 matches.
