Virat Kohli played his first One-Day International against New Zealand in Guwahati on November 28, 2010, scoring 105 off 104 balls to register his first ODI century. He has since established himself among the leading batsmen in ODI cricket.

Kohli remains one of the most important players in the Indian line-up. At 37 years of age he is described as one of the fittest players in the team and always shows up in the field. His experience and batting prowess, alongside his drive to improve every day, have helped the Men in Blue remain hungry for titles. Kohli has won five ICC trophies and holds the record for the most ICC accolades by an Indian player; his trophy collection includes the ICC Under-19 World Cup, ICC Cricket World Cup, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and two ICC Champions Trophies, and he has three centuries in ICC competitions—two in the ODI World Cup and one in the Champions Trophy.

In September he became only the second—and the fastest—player in ODI cricket history to reach 15,000 runs, with Sachin Tendulkar the only batter before him to reach the milestone. Kohli had already been the fastest to 8,000, 9,000, 10,000, 11,000, 12,000, 13,000 and 14,000 ODI runs, and he reached 15,000 in 315 innings.

The article credits Kohli’s technical precision and exceptional fitness on the pitch and refers to his image as the 'chase master'. It also notes that despite criticism, fitness concerns and age factors, he has shown no signs of slowing down and continues to dominate the 50-over format of cricket.

Talking about his favourite opponents in ODI cricket, he has always enjoyed facing New Zealand, both at home and away.

Kohli, alongside Rohit Sharma, remains one of the most important players in the Indian line-up. The team is preparing for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup on the African continent.
