Vondrousova appeals to Cas against four-year ban

On 25 August 2026 former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against a four-year ban imposed for refusing an anti-doping test.

The ban was handed down in June after the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) charged her with denying a doping control officer entry to her home to conduct an out-of-competition test in December 2025; her suspension is due to end on 21 June 2030. Vondrousova was ranked 42nd in the world when she beat Ons Jabeur in the 2023 Wimbledon final and in 2023 became the first unseeded player to win the Wimbledon women's singles title, and she is also a former French Open finalist and Olympic silver medallist.

According to Vondrousova, an officer called at her home at 20:00 on 3 December and she feared for her safety, saying they failed to properly identify themselves or follow "protocol". She signed a refusal form after she went outside to walk her dog shortly afterwards, an action that led to the ITIA charge cited in the ban ruling.

A tribunal determined Vondrousova provided "no compelling justification" for refusing the test and declined to shorten the suspension. The ruling referenced the anti-doping regime under which players are required to log their whereabouts for an allotted hour each day so authorities can conduct tests outside of competition.

Vondrousova said in April that when she refused the test she was at "breaking point after months of physical and mental stress". In a statement following her ban she wrote: "I have never doped, I have never had a positive test. Throughout my entire career I have undergone countless anti-doping controls and have always stepped on the court with a clear conscience."

The former world number six has not played since reaching the second round of the Adelaide International in January and has slipped down to 153rd in the WTA rankings.

Cas confirmed to BBC Sport that it had received the appeal but said a hearing date had not yet been set.
