Wakefield Trinity beat Warrington Wolves at Old Trafford in the Betfred Super League Grand Final on 3 October 2026 to lift the title, achieving the club’s first appearance in a Grand Final and a championship victory in the competition.

Wakefield finished fourth in the regular season, their highest placing in the Super League era, having been promoted from the Championship two years earlier after relegation in 2023 and confirmation of their place by the IMG grading system. They improved on a sixth-place finish from the previous season and reached Old Trafford following play-off wins over Leigh Leopards and Wigan Warriors.

Daryl Powell’s side dominated the opening half, racing into a 19-0 lead as tries from Cameron Scott, Isaiah Vagana and Jazz Tevaga, plus a drop goal from Jack Sinfield, set the tone. Wakefield carried forward a sequence that began with 33 unanswered points at Wigan, stretching that streak to 52 points, and key moments included Lachlan Walmsley’s reverse pass that sent Scott over and a last-tackle Jake Trueman kick that Jack Johnstone caught and tapped back for Vagana.

Warrington briefly threatened early in the second half after centre Corey Hall was sin-binned for a high tackle, allowing Arron Lindop to score with the extra man. When full numbers returned, Tom Johnstone used his power and pace to score what proved the decisive Wakefield try, and although Lindop scored a second time late on Warrington could not overturn the deficit with Ewan Irwin missing the conversion.

Match scoring details were recorded as: Tries — Lindop 2; Scott, Vagana, Tevaga, Johnstone. Goals — Irwin; Jowitt 3. Drop goal — Sinfield.

Warrington arrived at the final having won nine of their previous 10 matches, their sole defeat in the run-in having come at Wakefield in round 26, and this was their fifth Grand Final under head coach Sam Burgess after recent Challenge Cup final defeats at Wembley in the previous two years. In the Super League era Warrington have repeatedly fallen short as rivals Wigan and St Helens collected major trophies.

Team lists were as follows. Warrington: Thewlis; Hopoate, Lindop, King, Ashton; Williams (capt), Irwin; Byrne, Walker, Harrison, Bentley, Stone, Currie. Interchanges: Powell, Yates, Philbin, Tanginoa. Wakefield: Jowitt; Walmsley, Scott, Hall, Johnstone; Trueman, Sinfield; McMeeken (c), Smoothy, Rodwell, Vagana, Lipowicz, Tevaga. Interchanges: Lino, Potts, Faatili, Hamlin-Uele.

Wakefield are champions of England for the first time since 1968, while Warrington’s wait for a top-flight title now extends to a 72nd year.
