Wakefield Trinity beat Warrington Wolves 23-10 in Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford

Wakefield Trinity defeated Warrington Wolves 23-10 in the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on October 3, 2026. The win secured Wakefield their maiden Super League title.
Wakefield had been a Championship club as recently as two years ago after relegation in 2023, and owner Matt Ellis’s arrival in 2023 preceded an upturn in results. The club won the second-tier title two years ago and this was only their second season back in Super League. Their Grand Final success makes them the sixth different team to win the competition.
The scoring began when Lachlan Walmsley’s flick pass released Cam Scott for a corner try, converted by Max Jowitt. Eight minutes later Tom Johnstone rose highest before turning the ball inside for Isaiah Vagana to score, again with Jowitt on target. Those early scores put Wakefield in control of the contest.
Five minutes before half-time Jazz Tevaga powered over from close range to extend the lead and Jack Sinfield’s drop goal pushed Wakefield four scores clear at the break. That moment followed an emotional pre-match appearance by Sir Kevin Sinfield, who only an hour earlier delivered the match ball onto the Old Trafford pitch after completing his latest ultra-marathon challenge. Jack Sinfield is now a Super League winner in his first season as a Wakefield player.
Two minutes after the restart Corey Hall was sent to the sin-bin for a high tackle on Arron Lindop and, five minutes later, Lindop crossed to get Warrington on the board. Hall’s return swung momentum back to Wakefield and Jake Trueman’s play on the right created space for Tom Johnstone to score his second. Lindop added a late try but Ewan Irwin’s conversion attempt missed, leaving Wakefield ahead by 13.
Daryl Powell’s side contained seven players who had featured for Wakefield two years ago in the Championship play-offs, a point underlining the squad’s continuity rather than reliance on a single star. Warrington had been seeking a first title since 1955 and were booed off at half-time by the tens of thousands in attendance; the Wolves have now lost five straight Old Trafford finals.
The Grand Final victory delivers Wakefield their first major trophy for almost 60 years and ends the club’s long wait for national honours.
