Warren says Fury‑Joshua negotiations must be settled by end of next week
Frank Warren said on 26 August 2026 that negotiations over the proposed Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury fight in New York must be resolved by the end of next week, and that the decision currently rests with Joshua. Warren admitted he was unsure whether the long-delayed bout will take place but insisted Fury is training in the United States and will fight in November one way or another.
Warren told reporters that “Nothing’s been signed off as yet” regarding a revised contract for Fury and Joshua to fight in New York and criticised the pace of discussions. He added: “Everybody’s talking and talking rather than getting on with the business and getting it done.” Warren said there was a time limit on the talks and warned the bout could simply “slip by” if not concluded.
On the commercial side, Warren said Eddie Hearn and Joshua were seeking additional money from the US promoters Zuffa Boxing now that the fight is being moved to the United States, and he expected the negotiations to be time‑limited. “I should think they won’t let it go past the end of next week,” he said.
Warren questioned whether Joshua genuinely wanted the fight, saying: “There’re a lot of things I can’t say at the moment. Do I think so? I don’t know.” He noted Joshua “had a hard fight last time” and referred to Joshua being knocked down twice in the first round against the obscure Albanian Kristian Prenga last month, adding that Joshua “came through at the end.” Warren also quoted Joshua as saying he wanted the fight: “He says he does.”
Addressing the change of venue, Warren pointed out that the original contracts were signed for a UK location and that Fury had not initially agreed to an American site, but was prepared to travel. He reported Fury’s stance in his own words: “Get the politics and all this crap out of the way. Let’s get the fight on.” Warren noted Fury signed for the fight last January and said: “He signed for that fight last January, and unfortunately, AJ’s tragic [car] accident [in Nigeria] put it back.”
Warren reiterated his expectation that, if the fight happens, it will be in November and “in all probability, in the States,” and confirmed Fury had gone to Miami to train. He said: “But I’m confident that Tyson will fight [in November]. He’s in training. Eddie has come out and said what they want. I don’t know what the monetary situation is but, whatever it is, everyone’s got to make their mind up – otherwise move on.”
Warren closed by underlining that the ultimate decision lies with Joshua and that the negotiating window is short: he repeated his view that talks should not continue past the end of next week, while stating his hope that Fury’s November opponent will be AJ.
