Warrington beat Hull FC in Super League at Hull on 29 August 2026 to keep top-two hopes alive

Warrington Wolves beat Hull FC in a Super League match at Hull in East Yorkshire on 29 August 2026, retaining their hopes of a top-two finish. Matty Ashton's 18th try of the season contributed to Warrington's sixth successive win.
The contest was tight in the opening periods, with James Batchelor sent to the sin-bin in the first minute for a tackle on Arron Lindop, who subsequently failed a head injury assessment. Warrington captain George Williams put the visitors ahead after 18 minutes, but Aidan Sezer levelled at 2-2 from a Hull penalty shortly afterwards. With the scores tied heading into the final five minutes of the first half, two defensive errors under high kicks were punished by Warrington as Leon Hayes and Ashton crossed for back-to-back tries.
Hull were down to 12 men when Ligi Sao was sin-binned for a high shot on Ashton, and Josh Thewlis extended Warrington's lead ten minutes into the second half. That score appeared to put the game beyond Hull before the home side produced a late rally, with Ethan O'Neill crossing on Hull's left and Tom Briscoe — making his final home appearance for Hull before retiring — scoring to reduce the deficit.
Briscoe's try was the 233rd of his career and came with around 15 minutes remaining, cutting Warrington's advantage to two points and setting up a tense finish. Hull applied pressure for a further score in the closing stages, but Warrington defended their lead to the final whistle, despite Sao being involved in further incidents after his sin-binning and the Black and Whites ending the match short of a full complement of players.
The match was played in wet conditions in East Yorkshire and at times was attritional; Hull have now lost 18 of their 25 Super League matches this year. Warrington's victory moved them within reach of the league leaders as they aim to secure a top-two finish late in the season.
