Warrington to face Wigan in Dublin on Saturday, 24 April 2027

Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors will meet at the Laya Arena in Dublin on Saturday, 24 April 2027 in the first Super League fixture to be played in Ireland. The match is scheduled for the newly refurbished Laya Arena, the home of rugby union side Leinster.

The fixture is the second time the two clubs have played in Dublin, having previously met at Shelbourne Park in 1934; Wigan also took part in a Charity Shield fixture in Dublin against Leeds in 1995. It forms part of a recent pattern of Super League matches staged outside the sport’s traditional heartlands, following the pair’s meeting at the inaugural Rugby League Las Vegas event in 2025 and Wigan’s appearance against Catalans in Paris earlier this year.

Warrington chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick commented on the announcement, saying: "This is another landmark moment for our club, for Super League and for the sport of rugby league," "Following the success of the Las Vegas and Paris projects, and the appetite shown for taking our game to new audiences, Dublin is the perfect next destination. "It is a world-class sporting city with a proven track record of hosting major international events and provides another outstanding opportunity to showcase our sport on the big stage."

Wigan Warriors chief executive officer Kris Radlinski also reacted to the plans, saying: "Hopefully this will become another successful chapter in rugby league's growth story and show what can be achieved when we're prepared to think differently and be ambitious."

The 20,000 capacity Laya Arena has undergone a €52 million transformation. The refurbishment was completed before its reopening in August, in the lead up to the 2026 Dublin Horse Show. The venue previously hosted Wigan in 1995.

Radlinski added further on the choice of Dublin as a host city: "Dublin has an outstanding reputation for hosting major sporting events and provides the perfect stage for two proud clubs and two passionate sets of supporters to showcase everything that makes our game special," "This is about creating an occasion that people want to be part of, whether they're lifelong supporters or discovering rugby league for the very first time."

Next season’s fixture is primed to take place in the week before the Magic Weekend event, which is set to begin on Saturday, 1 May.
