Wigan rout Toulouse 48-18 with eight tries to move into second

Wigan Warriors beat Toulouse Olympique 48-18 at home in a Super League match on 8 August 2026, scoring eight tries in a comprehensive win.

Zach Eckersley finished with a brace to take his season total to 33 and Liam Marshall also crossed twice, while Bevan French scored once and created Jai Field’s try; Harry Smith kicked eight goals from eight, and Noah Hodkinson and Sam Eseh also touched down. The victory was Wigan’s 11th consecutive win and came amid a season that has included shock home defeats to Castleford Tigers and Huddersfield Giants.

Toulouse opened the scoring inside four minutes when Paul Ulberg cut inside from the right to score, but Wigan hit back in the 10th minute as Eckersley powered through the Toulouse line for the hosts’ first try. Eight minutes later French jinked his way over to score and then played a part in the build-up to Wigan’s third try as the visitors conceded penalties and the Warriors moved the ball along the line for Marshall to score on the left.

Toulouse narrowed the gap on 29 minutes after Brendan Hands’ grubber found Romeo Tropis, and Cesar Rouge then profited when his kick came off Harry Smith and he collected to cross four minutes later to level the game. Wigan responded before half-time, Hodkinson powering over on the right for what the report describes as his 15th Super League try of the season, and Eckersley then scored his second after Toulouse conceded a penalty that allowed Wigan to move upfield.

The second half saw Sam Eseh come off the bench to power through three tackles and score under the posts on 51 minutes. Brad O’Neill was sin-binned four minutes later for a dangerous tackle, but Wigan’s 12 men remained in control until French broke and kicked for Field to score, and Marshall completed his brace with a try on 78 minutes.
