High-flying Wigan moved alongside Leeds at the top of the Super League table with a disciplined defensive display that subdued a limited Bradford attack at Odsal. After a slow opening period, Wigan established control and had taken the lead through tries by Jake Wardle, Adam Keighran and Bevan French before half-time as Bradford struggled to create meaningful chances.

Wardle opened the scoring by capitalising on a loose ball and forcing his way through two weak Bulls tackles to claim the first try. Wigan extended their advantage soon after when French created space for Keighran, who powered over from close range. Bradford nearly responded when Chris Atkin was held up over the line, a decision upheld by referee Marcus Griffiths following Joe Mellor’s build-up.

Wigan had to wait well into the second quarter for their third try because the game was frequently stopped for penalties and other interruptions. The third score arrived from a pre-worked move as Harry Smith’s kick found French, who out-jumped Caleb Aekins to dot down. Immediately after the break a Wigan effort was ruled out after Patrick Mago was adjudged to have knocked on in the act of scoring.

Bereft of that score, the visitors soon did find the tryline when Bradford’s Andy Ackers erred and Wardle profited as the Bulls’ defence was left disorganised. Kian McDermott then finished a quick passing sequence between Smith and French by running in untouched. Ackers later produced Bradford’s only try, forcing his way through a series of Wigan tackles, but Jake Kerr’s late score completed the visitors’ sixth try and sealed the 18th victory of the season for Matt Peet’s side.
