WPL 2027: BCCI fixes tournament window and auction date, squads revealed
The BCCI has announced key dates for the fifth edition of the Women’s Premier League, scheduling the tournament from January 14 to February 7, 2027. The board has also set the player auction for October 28, 2026 at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi.
Four seasons of the WPL have been played, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians women each winning two titles. Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their second WPL crown in the 2026 season. The 2027 edition will feature five teams, each playing eight group-stage matches — two against every other side — with the top three advancing to the playoffs. The group-stage leader will go straight to the final while the second- and third-placed teams meet in the playoff.
The player auction is the first major milestone ahead of the tournament, and franchises must submit retention and release decisions by September 28, according to the BCCI. The board has confirmed the tournament window but has not released a complete match-by-match fixture list. Following the mega-auction in the 2026 season, the teams have already witnessed several iconic changes to their squads. The player market on October 28 will therefore be the next key event before final squads are completed.
The BCCI has not officially named venues for WPL 2027, but Mumbai and Vadodara have emerged as leading options. Reports identify Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara as contenders to host matches. Varanasi has also been mentioned as a possible location the board is exploring.
